The collection relates to the personal andprofessional life of Lyman Hoover. There is valuable documentation of the workof the YMCA in China from 1930 until the Communist takeover in 1950, includingobservations of Chinese social and political conditions. Lyman Hoover was amissionary in China under the auspices of the YMCA (1930-1949) and a consultantand representative of the Asia Foundation (formerly known as Committee for aFree Asia) in New York and Taiwan.
